Overview of Role 

Entry level accounting role (leading to fully qualified after 3 years) within a small finance department of an insurance company. A small department provides the opportunity to get exposure to all aspects of the company.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the role include assisting with:

  • Organising the authorisation and payment of invoices and staff expenses.
  • Setting up USD payments to suppliers and investment managers on request.
  • Posting journals into the accounting ledger, including the daily LCA Settlement, direct debits, underwriting figures.
  • Completion of monthly bank reconciliations and LCA debtor balances.
  • Fixed asset management, monthly depreciation calculation and posting.
  • Running the monthly recharge process.
  • Setting up FX transactions at the request of the finance team.
  • Liaising with auditors and providing information on request.
  • Entering data into the investment reconciliation software on a monthly basis.
  • Preparation of syndicate control reports on a quarterly basis.
  • Assisting members of the finance department with ad hoc requests.
  • Expected that the candidate will take all the necessary accountancy exams in order to become a fully qualified accountant. This will be supported by the Company both financially and with paid leave for study.

Experience

  • No previous experience required, knowledge of basic accounting an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of Lloyd’s insurance market an advantage but not a requirement. The successful candidate will be supported to sit the LM1 Introduction to Lloyds’s exam.
